Flagler County Emergency Operations managers have opened the county’s special needs shelter at Rymfire Elementary for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and group homes in zones A, B, F, and flood-prone areas effective Tuesday morning as Hurricane Dorian continues to move towards our area.
We anticipate further evacuations and the need for additional shelter space in the coming days. For that reason, Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager announces schools will remain closed through Thursday, September 5th.
A scheduled School Board workshop and a state-mandated budget meeting scheduled for Tuesday are also postponed.
“Our Flagler community needs us now to provide shelter from the approaching storm,” says Superintendent Tager. “We have a team of administrators and staff ready to go as we all face the uncertainty which still remains.”
When it comes to reopening schools and resuming our normal operations, Flagler Schools will continually evaluate and those decisions will be made in a timely manner.
Superintendent Tager adds, “Please stay safe and continue to follow the information from our county’s emergency management.”
