Hours of Operation: The Youth Center daily hours, throughout the School Year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 7:00pm. The building follows the school calendar. The only exception for this is when there are Special Events scheduled. The Youth Center is Closed on Saturday & Sunday.
Road to Success Program: RTS has helped 121 young adults earn their GEDs to date.
Workshops this month included resume building, mock interviews and techniques, career and college assessments and 8 new students started in September. Seven of those new students have also earned their Food Handlers Certifications. Student Advisory Council (SAC): Due to the Hurricane it has been hard getting to hold our groups first meeting. However, the good news is that it will extend our individual recruiting time line. The Youth Center’s SAC is looking for a few good young women & men to participate in the Council, designed to organize & operate Youth Center activities. Gain leadership skills, valuable Community Service Hours, and compete with other seniors to earn a $500 Scholarship. October meetings have been set for 10/9 & 10/23, immediately after school, in the Youth Center.
Youth Centers Student Advisory Council: Welcome Back BBQ: All are youth are invited to a FREE BBQ, compliments the Youth Centers SAC on: Tuesday, October 3rd , starting at 3:00pm. Come get your Hot Dog, Hamburger, Chips and drink, and enjoy your friends, listening to music and just “Chilin”, after school!
Youth Center’s SWAT: Students Working Against Tobacco Chapter Updates: Senior Destiny Cole returns to chair this year’s SWAT Team, in the Youth Center. Meetings are held every other Monday, immediately after school, in the Youth Center. October meetings have been set for: Monday’s: 10/9 & 10/23. Help us and join the fight against “Big Tobacco’. Come one, come all, for the more participants the better!
Home Varsity Football Games: October is a busy month for Home Football Games. When the Varsity Football Teams plays at home, the Youth Center will close at 6:00pm. With that in mind the Youth Center will close at 6:00pm on Friday’s: 10/6, 10/20/, and 10/27.
FCYC Roller Rink Update: At this point we have the following rink users: Adult Roller Hockey, Adult Dek Hockey, Youth Roller Hockey, and Women’s Roller Derby. The rink is entering its 11th year of operation and is close to being scheduled 100% of the time. The group discussed future funding, tournaments, as well as a number of improvements, that are becoming necessary, due to it tens years of operation. All users would also love to see the rink get under cover, by adding a roof, to expand its use. FCYC Asst. Director, Brandon Seminara, is working with the group, to see what improvements can be accomplished.
Teen Talk Returns: Once a week, Ms. Victoria Langello, an Adolescent Behavioral Specialist from Stuart Marchman Act, conducts a rap session, for participants. This activity is offered once a week, on a voluntary basis to all youth center participants. Keep an eye out for stating date and times of this program.
