Hours of Operation: The Youth Center daily hours, throughout the School Year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 7:00pm. The building follows the school calendar. The only exception for this is when there are Special Events scheduled. The Youth Center is Closed on Saturday & Sunday.
Road to Success Program: RTS has helped 125 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 13 obtaining honors. We had 3 students that were accepted into colleges and 4 obtained employment. This month students participated in graduation pictures with a professional photographer and will receive a Graduation photo packet that’s included in the program. Students completed workshops that included resume building, mock interviews and techniques, career and college assessments and banking financials by Wells Fargo. We had 6 new students start in October. Nine RTS students will be trained in First Aid & CPR on November 3rd, and 5 students have already earned their Food Handlers Certifications. Student Advisory Council (SAC): Chair: Destiny Cole has been busy encouraging new student participation, as well as planning for current events. Council members helped serve food at the Welcome Back BBQ, manned a table at the Showcase on School Resource Night at BTMS, on Thursday October 19th, and helped prepare for the Halloween Happening event on October 31st. This group may have gotten a late start, but are off and running and preparing for a super fun school year!
Welcome Back BBQ Review: On Tuesday, October 3rd, Coach Guerrero cooked over 80 Cheeseburgers and 80 Hotdogs! Everyone enjoyed the free food, cool drinks and bags of chips, compliments the Student Advisory Council. What a great way to start the 2017-2018 School Year!
Students Working Against Tobacco Chapter Updates: The Youth Center SWAT Club has been busy planning for Red Ribbon Week activities. Red Ribbon Week was October 22nd – 28th. To stress the need to remain “Drug Free” SWAT members gave out stickers and lollipops at the Varsity Football Game on Friday, October 27th.
Home Varsity Football Games: FYI: When the Varsity Football Teams plays at home the Youth Center will close at 6:00pm. Keep an eye out for Football Play-Offs and Schedule!
Student Advisory Councils’ Halloween Happening: On Tuesday, October 31st, after school, the Student Advisory Council is sponsoring a FREE Trick and Treat Give-a-way. All that enter the building will receive a ticket for the drawing. Once your number is drawn you get the opportunity to pick Candy or a surprise Trick or Treat bag! In three of the bags is a number for the grand prize drawings. Three bags containing gift cards will be selected by the lucky winners. Two bags have a $10 Walmart Gift Card, and one lucky winner will get a $25 Walmart Gift Card!
Teen Talk Returns: Once a week, Ms. Victoria Langello, an Adolescent Behavioral Specialist from Stuart Marchman Act, conducts a rap session, for participants. This activity is offered once a week, on a voluntary basis to all youth center participants. Keep an eye out for stating date and times of this program.
