Hours of Operation: The Youth Center daily hours, throughout the School Year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 7:00pm. The building follows the school calendar. The only exception for this is when there are Special Events scheduled. The Youth Center is Closed on Saturday & Sunday.  

Road To Success Program:  RTS has helped 140 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 15 earning honors.  Our workshops this month included presenters from RTS staff worked on resumes and mock interviewing skills, Wells Fargo bank reviewed banking and daily expenses and how to budget, Sayskids conducted a workshop on communication in the workplace, FTI’s Travis Thomas provided students with career exploration and program overview. The Observer did an article on RTS which was in the February 8th edition.  February 23rd, RTS students and staff attended the Job Fair at Daytona State College in Palm Coast.  Student brought their resumes and did on site interviews.  Twelve students attended, several students were interviewed and one was hired on the spot, we expect others will learn they were hired as well by attending. February we had seven students earn their First Aid & CPR Certificates.  Coming up in March, Students have their graduation pictures on March 1st, National Guard representative presenting on March 8th, March 21st Food Handlers Certification class, March 28th field trip to Marineland. Student Advisory Councils Update: Members will participate on Saturday, March 3rd, in the Walk for Food, 10am -1pm, at the FPC Track. The member who collects the most cans, to donate, will win a $25 Gift Card to Walmart. The individual who finishes second will be awarded a $10 gift card.   

SWAT Club Update: For Through with Chew Week, club member distributed at lunchtime tags with Dumb-Dumb lollipops on them saying: “Don’t be Dumb, Chew Gum, Not Tobacco products”. On Tuesday, February 20th, Destiny Cole, Kaitlynn Covington, Lauren Lilly, and Hailey Fagan accompanied Ms. Massaro to the Constitutional Review Committee Open Meeting, at UNF. This committee meets once every 20 years to review and revamp Florida’s Constitution. The groups goal was to Vote No for Proposition 94, which would eliminate SWAT and Tobacco Free Florida. At the event, no one spoke to support Prop. 94, and over 50 individuals  supported to Vote No on Prop 94!

Summer Camp Registration: It is hard to think about your summer camp needs in March, but do to the success of the Youth Center’s Summer Camp program, for middle school youth, registration begins for returning campers during the month of February, and opens to general registration on March 1st. Only 60 slots are available, so if you are interested in having your child participate in this 8 week program, for $165, be prepared to sign up early! FREE Minority Family Summit:  Sponsored by Vitas Health Care, George Washington Carver Foundation, and the Flagler County Department of Juvenile Justice Council is set for Saturday, March 24th, 9:30am -2:00pm, in the G. W. Carver Community Center. This wonderful event provides workshops to assist community leadership and local families in dealing with many community issues related to juveniles and law enforcement.  2018 Workshops include: What is RED & DMC, Gainesville’s Police Department approach to Community Policing, Explanation of Bias and Implicit Bias, and The Role of the School Resource Deputies.  State and local authorities will be presenting material designed to help all participants navigate this very complex issue. The event will conclude with a Pizza Parle’ lunch and open conversation. Child care will be provided and all attendees will have the opportunity to win $100 Gift Cards.
