Hours of Operation: The Youth Center daily hours, throughout the School Year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 7:00pm. The building follows the school calendar. The only exception for this is when there are Special Events scheduled. The Youth Center is Closed on Saturday & Sunday.
2018 Baby/Child Fair: A group of youth representing the FPC Problem Solvers, are putting together their event, for Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the G.W. Carver Community Center. The Fair is scheduled to meet the needs of our youngest community members, and their families. Mark your calendars today, and plan to take advantage of this wonderful second year event!
Road To Success Program: RTS has helped 138 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 15 earning honors. Our workshops this month included presenters from Wells Fargo bank, Department of Juvenile Justice presented “Know the Law”, and four students earned their Food Handlers Certifications. Sayskids presented life skills training on Problem Solving. RTS enrolled 5 new students in January and have three beginning in February.
We would also like to welcome our newest team member, Danielle Merritt, who has been subbing for us over the last few months and has done an awesome job. Also, the Observer will be doing an article on RTS which will be in next week’s edition, February 8th. February 23rd, RTS students and staff will be attending the Job Fair at Daytona State College in Palm Coast. Students will be bringing their resumes and interviewing skills to meet with employers and be prepared for on-site interviewing and possibly job offers. FREE Open Mic Night: Friday, February 9th, 7:00pm-9:00pm in the Youth Center- If you are in High School or Middle School and like to Sing, Dance, Tell Jokes, Read Poetry or Play an Instrument, this event is for you! Got any talent, come on in and give it a try with other youth in a coffee house atmosphere. This event is sponsored by the Youth Center’s SWAT and Student Advisory Council, who will also provide free refreshments. A “FUN” evening is guaranteed!!
Student Advisory Councils’ WE LOVE YOU” Campaign: On Tuesday, February 13th : after school, the Student Advisory Council hosted a FREE Give-a-way.! Visit the Youth Center on 2/13, after school, and obtain your FREE ticket for the give-a-way. Maybe you will be the luckiest and win the $25 Walmart Gift Card!
Summer Camp Registration: It is hard to think about your summer camp needs in January, but do to the success of the Youth Center’s Summer Camp program, for middle school youth, registration begins for returning campers during the month of February, and opens to general registration on March 1st. Only 60 slots are available, so if you are interested in having your child participate in this 8 week program, for $165, be prepared to sign up early!
GW Carver Foundation at GW Carver Community Center: The Foundation met and is off and running and planning their 2017-2018 Fundraisers. Once again the group will sponsor their Motown Madness Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 24th. Please mark your calendars NOW, and plan to attend. The group will also sponsor their annual On-Line Auction from April 11, 2018 – April 26th. If anyone has any items they would like to donate to the auction, please contact Cheryl Massaro or Brandon Seminara in the Flagler County Youth Center.
