Flagler County Youth Center will be CLOSED;
Wednesday, July 4th
Hours of Operation: The Youth Center daily hours, throughout the School Year are: Monday – Friday, 2:00pm – 7:00pm. Summer Hours: The Youth Center operates a Summer Camp, Monday – Friday, from 8am -5:30 pm daily. All participants MUST be previously registered to attend.
Summer Camp Update: The 2018 Summer Camp started on Monday, June 4th for all registered participants. Returning to this year’s staff includes Cheryl Massaro the Director of the Youth Center and Brandon Seminara the Assistant Director and Summer Camp Coordinator. Also returning to this year’s program areEric and Evonne Guerrero. Eric and Evonne share the responsibility of working the reception desk as well as supervising field trips. This year’s counselors include returning FPC alumni Michael Bevacqua, Kamrin Bunn, and Isabella Hernandez. New to this year’s staff are Malia Dalzell and Samuel Velazquez. Both Malia and Sam may be new to the staff position, but they are not new to the Youth Center, as both were previously campers and counselors in training. Each year we host a tournament to determine camp champions in different activities. This year’s winners include: Ethan Laupepa (Ping Pong), Kamron Davis (8-Ball), Kimya Lewis (Checkers), and Laila Davis (Jenga).
Summer Camp Trips: Remaining Trips The 2018 Summer Camp is half way over but there is still some awesome field trips left to participate in. Daytona Lagoon: July 21st. Bowling: July 13th. Hangar 15: July 18th. Epic Movies: July 20th. Typhoon Lagoon: July 25th. Trips are open to any 6th-12th grade student if there is space available. Road To Success Program: RTS has helped 153 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 16 earning honors. RTS is a year-round program and will be enrolling during the summer. Events in June included: Graduation night for RTS students with FTIs graduation ceremony was on June 6th. Workshops conducted included: a resume class, career assessments, job searching, employment and social media by Career Source, Wells Fargo banking literacy presentation, UCF Nursing students did a three-hour workshop on healthy living and career exploration, field trip to Skyzone in Daytona Beach and field trip to DSC in Palm Coast for a tour. DJJ will be conducting, “KNOW THE LAW”, Nurse Linda Broxton is scheduled to do First Aid & CPR Certification class, Howard Johnson will be providing Food Handlers Certification, Field trips in July will be to Daytona’s Science Museum. Flagler County School Resource Officers Presentation on Bullying & Texting: On the first day of camp a presentation on cyberbullying and texting was presented by Deputy Landi and Deputy Williams. They provided valuable information to help students prevent getting into trouble due to bullying and texting.
SWAT Summer Presentation: On Friday, June 22nd Kaiden Redding and SWAT Coordinator Troy Stone gave a presentation on the harmful effects of juuling. This presentation was in preparation for when they will present to the City of Bunnell.
