Youth Center Information: During the School Year: The Flagler County Youth Center is a FREE recreational facility open to any Flagler County Resident, in grades 7th -12th, Monday- Friday, from 2:00pm -7:00pm. During the summer months, the Center is converted into a Summer Camp, for 6th -9th graders, from 8:00am -5:30pm, Monday – Friday.
Friday Night Done Right-Friday, February 5th , 6:00pm -9:00pm: The Youth Center will open their doors for all Flagler County 5th & 6th Graders for: Dancing, Gaming, Ping-Pong and Pool. Come and plan to have a fun filled Friday Night without: Drugs, Alcohol or Tobacco.
“We Love You” Campaign: On Thursday, February 11th, the Youth Center will hold their annual “We Love You” campaign by sponsoring a FREE ‘Sweet Treat & Gift” give-away. All you need to do to participate in this event is be a Flagler County youth, and in the center at the time of the drawing.
Road To Success Program: To date 59 students have earned their GED/Diplomas with 6 students scoring honors. This month another one of our students enrolled into College, 1 student started the “Work Experience” portion of the program. The “Work Experience” is when students are near graduation and have completed several goals, they earn the right to work with local companies and learn soft skills, customer service and possibly hired on after the “Work Experience is over. The “Work Experience” is a paid training program that is funded through the Career Source Flagler Volusia for RTS students. Our Guest speakers for January included, Ed Pisani from Bounce Marketing Inc, Girlfriends Connected, a female mentoring program conducted by Sharell Arneaud, MSW. Coaching the Global Village, Inc workshops on networking, creating goals, cash register experience, steps for professionals at work, and by Jesse McGee for resume writing and mock interviews, Wells Fargo completed banking workshops and assisted students in opening checking accounts. A special shout out and congratulations to Taahira Lee, who is our case manager and data entry person and is fabulous! January 5th was her 1 year Anniversary with the RTS Youth Program. March Motown Madness: Mark your calendars NOW, for Saturday, March 26th, 6:00pm, for “Motown Madness”, at the G.W. Carver Center! This Dinner Dance, featuring music by the popular group “Traces of Gold”, is designed to have a super time, while raising funds for George Washington Carver Foundation. Tickets are $50pp, and will be available at the Carver Community Center, Flagler County Youth Center, as well as from every G.W. Carver Foundation Board members. Step back in time, and enjoy great food, and dancing the evening away at this wonderful new event.
FREE “Reading Rocks” Program at Carver: City of Bunnell’ s Commissioner: Bonita Robinson and Daytona University professor and local resident: Mona Dunphy, are developing a FREE Reading Program for the Carver Center. “Reading Rocks”, is set to begin at the Carver Center on Monday, January 25th, from 3:00pm -5:00pm, and continue every Monday & Wednesday, throughout the school year. The program is for Boy’s & Girl’s in grades 5th -12th. Sin-ups will begin on Monday, January 4th. Additional information can be obtained by speaking with Rev. Emanuel, Carver Center Director.
Teen Talk: Ms. Victoria, from Stuart Marchman, is sponsoring a “Teen Talk” group every Tuesday, in the Youth Center at 3:30pm. Teenage years are always difficult to navigate, and often the solution to problems is easier to achieve than you think. Stop by on Tuesday, and join in on the conversations, for what is said in “Teen Talk” remains in “Teen Talk’.
Road To Success “OPEN HOUSE”: RTS Students & Staff are currently organizing an “Open House”, in the Carver Center on March 8th, from 11:00am – 1:00pm. Mark your calendars now to see this Flagler County “Premier” GED program, and the many ways it is supporting Flagler County Youth.
